Current Issue On Online Learning- Iffah Farahusna
Updated: Jan 16, 2021
Assalammualaikum and hi everyone. My name is Iffah Farahusna Binti Mohamad Faizal. I will talk about the current issue that we are facing right now. It is online learning during COVID 19 pandemic.
Online learning is one of the ways to seek knowledge using an Internet platform. All we need is Internet access to attend the class. If we have a phone or laptop, we are automatically capable attend the classes.
Mostly many countries have adapted to this kind of method, but not in Malaysia. If so, people who are learning online is the one who is working and studying at the same time which they do not have time to go to classes. However, most of the students prefer going to face-to-face classes because they are much familiar with that.
COVID-19 have changed the lives of students and also educators all over the world drastically. Not just students and educators, but most of the people that live in this world are affected by it. However, life must go on. Students need to continue their education learning. Therefore, students must continue their education through online learning for everyone safety.
They need to attend the classes via video calls. They can attend the classroom via Google Meet or Zoom.
Based on my experience, I did get into college late than the others. My friends and some students encountered this experience first. There were so many complaints about learning online all over the social media about how bad is it. I thought to myself, does learning online is THAT BAD?
Well, not until I experience it all by myself. I guess I did regret saying that.
I think I am okay with learning online up until now. Maybe there are some situations that I hate to deal with and prefer the face-to-face classes. But anyways, online learning does have the pros and the cons. From my perspective, the pros of online learning are it is more cost-saving. By that means, I did not spend a lot of money on myself for college life. As an example, the accommodation cost, travelling cost and much more.
Also, I have a flexible lifestyle having an ODL at home. I still can spend my time with my family on the weekend.
The cons of it are when it comes to doing a group project. Sometimes it difficult to cooperate and discuss the project with the group members. As we are not in the same places, we can't meet each other to discuss it properly. All we have is our devices to communicate.
Moreover, the most frustrating situation is when losing Internet connection. I have encountered this so many times because of a bad gateway. When losing an internet connection, losing the few minutes of the lecture will make us left behind. Plus, we also can't focus on classes because of it. Also, students mental health are deteriorating, same goes to the lecturers and teachers.
Online learning does have a lot of cons instead of pros. I am hoping that this will end soon and everything will be back to normal. I am hoping that everyone going through it is strong enough.
The actual look how is everyone during ODL.
